The First Week

On our way to pick up the motorhome
As always, the first week involves the trip south - often a time of uncertainty and/or excitement. We are always wondering - how will the roads be, what will the weather be like!! Well, on Remembrance Day off we went, in the midst of what appeared to be a blizzard. We decided to try the roads and head out - perhaps only get to Moose Jaw. Well, once we hit the highways, the blizzard became ground drift, and by the time we reached Chaplin, the sun was shining.

The roads were great - until we turned south at Taber, where they started to be patchy packed snow and ice, until we got to Great Falls, MT, when there were no patches - just packed snow and ice. The next day those road conditions continued for another couple of hours. After that it was smooth sailing - great roads, and no wind - what a great combination.

We soon discovered that once again, we had a fridge that would not start. So with a bag of ice in the fridge, to keep things cool, onward we go.

As we travel down the road in Montana

We spend a couple of nights in a park near St. George, UT where we firstly wash all the road muck from the Motorhome and the Jeep. Then we wonder, what to do with the fridge. Since it isn't working anyway, we decide that there must be an airbubble and since it is too big and heavy to take out and turn upside down, we decide to give it extra heat - and it worked. Next, we have a water heater that has a burnt out element (the result of forgetting to turn off the power when we started the generator to winterize last fall (suspected that this could have happened). Got that fixed and all is great.

We spent a night at Mesquite, lost some cash (I think a total of $4.00 between us) but had a great prime rib supper (we thought of you Stan as we licked clean our plates). From there it was on Overton, NV (a big day of about 30 miles) for a couple of days before we start our 4X4 rally.

The mountains in Arizona
We decided to hit the campground on Saturday, where we had the chance to do some visiting with old friends, and look forward to the opportunity to make some new ones.  The weather is sunny, a bit of wind, and pleasant temperatures.  This afternoon (Sunday) we get a chance to sign up for trails that we want to drive - the choice of scenic for Carol, or rocky for Gerry.  I guess since he's driving, he doesn't have a great chance to enjoy the scenery; so we'll see who wins out.

Next week I will let you know how the week went - did we do scenic or did we do rocky!!!
