Double Up

Since I missed posting last week, this week I will be doubling up.  Since we were planning on flying home last week, it it meant a bit of preparation.  We moved to an area where we were able to leave the motorhome  in the care of some friends.  This eliminated the need to get a storage spot, plus we also had someone who could check the fridge daily - clearly a relief for us considering our history of fridge issues.

On Jan 24 we flew home for a week.  We had a two and a half hour drive as we had decided to fly out of John Wayne Airport in Santa Ana, CA.  The morning was pleasant but cloudy and we were soon to have some light rain and drizzle.  It is a very pretty drive - at least until we got to the freeway and then it's crazy, crazy traffic.

Once on the plane in Santa Ana, we flew to Denver, changed planes, and then home.  We arrived right on schedule.  Chris was there to pick us up in a nice warm car which was super considering the temperature was a mere -20, or so the weatherman said although it certainly seemed colder.  It was great to see the kids - big and little.  The weather did temper somewhat and with going from warm house to warm car, it really was fine.

The week was spent with work, and visiting the kids - the little guys are really a blast - things they say and do are definitely priceless!!

But the week has passed and it was time to head back - this time the temperatures were -35 with a wind chill of - 51.  It was time to get out of dodge - hopefully.  Well, our flight was cancelled so we quickly went off to see what we could re-book.  We have a couple of choices - try again tomorrow, or take several flights.  Well we chose the latter so in a couple of hours, we boarded a flight to Calgary, then off to Vancouver, a stop in San Fransisco, and finally Santa Ana. On one of the legs, the flight attendant came over and asked Gerry if he was Dr. Lenzen.  He said no so she verified his name and asked if he had a PhD.  Again he said no.  It turned out that they had him listed as a doctor, and our flight had been upgraded so we even got free food.  We finally arrived to temperatures of 15, got the Jeep and decided to head home.  It was a tough drive as we were both exhausted, plus Gerry had come down with a cold so flying was not fun for him.  He drove part way, I drove the rest, and we finally arrived after 23 hours from the time we got up.  Off to bed for some much deserved sleep.  A snooze the next afternoon, and we are almost back to normal - with the exception of Gerry's cold which seems to improve as the day goes on.

Another day and Gerry's cold is pretty well gone.  But another fridge issue - I went into the freezer to get some ice only to discover that something had gone wrong - the check light was on and the ice was starting to melt.   Gerry went out and cleaned the burner and so far, so good.

The weather has been wonderful since we got back but last night we had some wind and it rained all night.  I got up this morning and yup, a ten inch rain - a drop every ten inches.  It's going to be a great day!!!

I hope everyone had a great couple of weeks, and until next week, take care.  Hopefully, next week I will even have some more pictures.
