Off Road Week is Done

Sunday - today is the day we drive down to the Grand Canyon along old Route 66.  We leave the RV park at 8:30 and head towards Peach Springs.  For those of you have seen the movie Cars, apparently the town in that movie, Radiator Springs, is fashioned after Peach Springs, a small town on the Hualapai reservation and the gateway to the road down to the Colorado River.

The road down is gravel 20  mile road, a bit wash-boardy, but very easy to drive. About a mile from the Colorado River, the Diamond River comes to the road.  Sometimes you cross this river, and sometimes you drive along it.  It is not very deep so posed no problems at all.

While the Grand Canyon is not as spectacular as it is along the north and/or south rim, it is still quite a magnificent drive down.  And the only way to see the Grand Canyon from the Colorado River is to hike down, take a mule ride down, raft down the river, or take this road which to me was the only option.  We had lunch on the river banks - but those little black flies were vicious - biting any open area.  I have attached a very short video of our trip down.  For some reason (likely my lack of knowledge, the quality become compomised when viewed full screen).

Road Kill Cafe
Our Carrot Cake
From here, we drove back out and further along Route 66 to Seligman.  The Snow Cap drive-in was closed so we were not able to get an ice cream.  While we did not eat at the Road Kill Cafe, we did have a bite to eat across the street where we shared a burger and a huge piece of carrot cake.

Our View - Lake Havasu
Monday, and it's time to hit the road.  We stopped at Lake Havasu City where we stayed on the island overlooking Lake Havasu.  The weather was great, the sunset was spectacular, and it was truly enjoyable as we watched the many different types of boats travel on the lake.  This was our home for a couple of days.  As always, the Arizona sunset is something to see and we are getting some spectacular ones.

Well, it's Wednesday and time to move on again - this time to Quarzsite.  Here is where we will "hang our hat" until we run out of water.  This time will be spent getting some things done that has been waiting for quite some time.

Gerry has spent quite a bit of time on the motorhome - waxing it, stripping it, waxing it again.  I know this may seem like a redundant process but the first wax job was not at all nice - very blotchy.  The second time around is turning out much better.

Our home today
I am getting  a chance to do some needlework, and that too, is becoming quite a challenge.  The same old - make ten stitches, take out seven.  I am just going to have to do a better job of counting stitches. Maybe a bit of practice is what I need.

On Saturday we went to Blythe, CA and got a few groceries.  On our way back we picked up some supplies for another project.  We need to change some wiring on our solar panels.  I sure hope it isn't like trying to hang wallpaper together because if it is, Gerry is on his own!!!  Next week I may have a report.

I look forward to hearing from you, until next week, take care and have a great week.
